The west Chilcotin and especially Chilko Lake, are well known for
their large population of quality Mule Deer. We will take you into the alpine areas to
hunt for the big bucks that usually die of old age. In most areas we can access these
areas by horse, but in some cases, hiking is the only way into these remote pockets and
valleys. We set up base camp between 4,000 and 7,000 feet and then go from there on day
trips or spend the night in spike camps. In the early morning hours we glass the open side
hills or shale until we find a trophy buck and then have all day to stock him while bedded
down.
Mule deer sizes range from 20-30 inch range, averaging in the mid 20s for a true
inside spread. Many of the areas are never hunted by humans and give you the opportunity
to find that special buck that no one has ever seen!
