Orientation
and Safety Talk
When you arrive at the lodge you will be given safety briefing on
bear awareness. Our concern is not only for your safety but also
the bears. During the orientation we will discuss each tour and
give an overview of the lodges other activities and facilities.
Chilko Lake Tour
A day up Chilko Lake taking in the rugged mountain scenery is a
must do while here! You will fly over Chilko Lake on the way into
our lodge and you will see what we mean. Enjoy your day on the pristine
Chilko Lake aboard the HMCS Bud Lite. Take pleasure in the beautiful
mountain scenery while looking for wildlife along the banks of the
lake. You will enjoy lunch at Spectacle Lake which is a short 10
min hike from the north end of Chilko Lake. Chilko Lake is the largest
high mountain lake in North America measuring 52 miles long.
Early Bird Tour
The early bird tour will start at first light where you will meet
at the main lodge for a continental breakfast. At 6:00 am we will
travel to the boats and float down the river to witness the bears
coming out for the morning feeding. The float will be approximately
8 miles down the river. We will return to the lodge for breakfast.
Drift Boat
Take our Mackenzie drift boat down the beautiful Chilko River. On
the tour you will have a chance to see a variety of wildlife as
we drift silently 17 miles down the river. Along the way we will
make several stops to view historic sites and learn some of the
rich history of the Chilko area.
Boat
We use the boats to drift silently to a variety of places along
the river. From the safety of the boat guest will have the chance
to view the bears feeding on the plentiful salmon. At the end of
the day we use the motors to get us back to the lodge.
Grizzly Bear Paw Castings
Take home a cast of a grizzly paw print. Our guides will show you
how to take your own casting of a grizzly bear print.
Photography
All of our trips offer great opportunities for photographs. We recommend
bringing a 60-200 mm telephoto lens with a built in image stabilizer.
Other suggested equipment would be a polarized filter, wide angle
lens, and tripod.
Other Wildlife
The Chilko area offers a variety of other wildlife to the outdoor
enthusiast. Along with the Grizzly Bears guest may see: Mule Deer,
Moose, Black Bear, Wolves, Bald Eagles, Hawks and a variety of shore
birds.
